*** PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO EVERYBODY IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK *** IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING (USA). Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In the U.S.A, MADD's mission is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking. One difficulty MADD has encountered in its mission to prevent underage drinking is people's attitudes. The Nazis have encountered the same problem in promoting bigotry and unprovoked violence against Jewish folks. Largely because of the Nazis, many beer halls posted signs saying, "Juden Verboten." The Ku Klux Klan has encountered the same problem in promoting bigotry and unprovoked violence against Negroes. Largely because of the KKK, many bars posted signs saying, "White Only." Few things in this world are more innocent than some young folks celebrating their high school graduation with a kegger. Dispatching gun-toting mercenaries in bullet-proof vests to round them up, handcuff them, force them into patrol cars against their will and deliver them to the government's jail is unprovoked violence. MADD promotes bigotry and unprovoked violence against innocent citizens younger than 21 who responsibly exercise their inherent natural right to drink what they're not stealing. Largely because of MADD, many bars post signs saying, "No Minors Allowed." One attitude MADD, Nazis and the KKK have encountered is the attitude that the United States of America ought to be a free country, with liberty and justice for all. People say stuff like, "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves, and under a just God, they cannot long retain it." and "I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the date of their birth but by the content of their character." MADD has statistics which clearly prove those people are wrong. Just look at all the teenagers getting killed in drunk driving crashes. Let us look at some of them now. On 30 January 2005, a Detroit cop ran over and killed Marvin Shaina, 19. Well, that's one way to prevent underage drinking. The cop was drunk, the pedestrian was 19, so chalk up another "teenager killed in a drunk driving crash." The criminal got probation. The criminal is forbidden to drink, because of the homicide he chose to commit. The victim never got a chance to drink legally. All his life, Shaina was forbidden to drink, though he committed no crime. Grace Chamberlain and Andrew Hopkins, students from Hiram College, were killed in a crash in Burton Township, Ohio on 2 March 2006. They were 18. The 47-year-old driver of the pick-up truck that crossed the center line and struck them head-on had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.26%, so chalk up two more "teenagers killed in a drunk driving crash." Another student, 19, was in the back seat. He spent weeks in the hospital getting his face put back together with metal plates and screws. While that pick-up truck driver was accumulating _ELEVEN_ prior drunk driving convictions, MADD was demanding more compliance checks, rigorous enforcement of underage drinking laws, and otherwise promoting unprovoked violence against innocent drinkers under 21. MADD's website explains, "Without efforts to prevent underage drinking, there could be an increase in the number of drunk driving deaths and injuries among these inexperienced drivers." But drunk driving isn't the only excuse MADD bigots offer. Some senior citizens drink too much, and MADD bigots offer that as an excuse to deny liberty to people under 21. The survey says those senior citizens started young, after all. Then they offer fetal alcohol syndrome as an excuse to deny liberty to men under 21, but perish the thought that such a restriction should be imposed on pregnant women over 21. Like the Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan, MADD bigots offer the biological inferiority argument. What motivated MADD to change its mission statement and its focus to the point that founder Candy Lightner left in disgust, explaining that "It has become far more neo-prohibitionist than I ever wanted or envisioned."? MADD probably doesn't fancy the outvoted discrimination victims standing around at their kegger puzzling, "Gee, Sherlock, why do you suppose the drunk drivers in the state legislature would rather impose the drinking age on us than impose tougher drunk driving penalties on themselves?" "Duh, I dunno, Watson. I got accepted at a very demanding college, but I'm too stupid to figure that out." Follow the money. MADD's website shows its corporate sponsors include some big names in the auto and oil industries. Consider what would happen if a state stopped violating the rights of responsible drinkers under 21 and started cracking down seriously on drunk driving. More drinkers, young and old, would walk home. Then they would complain to aldermen about snow plowed onto sidewalks, lack of crosswalk lights, and other ways the government maliciously endangers pedestrians to punish them for not driving. Cities would become more pedestrian-friendly. Consider what would happen if license suspension periods were increased. In some cities, bus ridership would double. Transit companies could extend their hours and routes. High school graduates reading the want ads would not need to buy cars. MADD's auto and oil industry sponsors want today's teenagers to be addicted to driving, not drinking, so when they grow up to be planning board members, they will be just as stunned as today's planning board members would be, if somebody proposed an apartment house without a parking lot. The landlord would have to lower rents to attract pedestrian tenants, encouraging people to do without cars. City Hall robs pedestrians of this natural discount. MADD's auto and oil industry sponsors profit from zoning restrictions that burden pedestrians by imposing great distances people must travel to work, shop, or gather to drink. MADD's auto and oil industry sponsors want teenagers to see the world through a windshield, so when they grow up to be aldermen, they will be just as apathetic as today's aldermen to the plight of pedestrians. MADD's website explains, "Our nation's youth are tomorrow's leaders and we are investing in their future and ours." If you oppose drunk driving, there are other channels for your efforts than MADD. Please note that Libertarian candidates as a rule oppose zoning restrictions and underage drinking laws.
